International Day of the Potato 2026

On 29 May, Potato Certification Service attended the International Day of the Potato hosted at Tshwane Market in Pretoria 🌱.

Among the stands from industry leaders, including Potatoes South Africa, WesGrow and Subtropico, PCS manned an exhibition to promote awareness of the critical role certification plays in ensuring producers have access to high-quality planting material.

Visitors received a brief overview of the potato certification process: from field inspections and sampling to tuber inspections in maintaining the availability of quality seed potatoes for the industry. We also highlighted the importance of diffuse light sprout evaluations in ensuring cultivar integrity within the seed potato industry.
