Position: Managing Director

Employer: Potato Certification Service

Potato Certification Service plays a leadership role in pursuing a sustained supply of high-quality planting material to the South African potato industry. As such, we supply an industry-related service which supports the potato industry in South Africa to perform optimally by ensuring the availability of high-quality planting material.

The incumbent in this position will primarily be responsible for the following:

  • Oversees core business delivery.
  • Overall management of the company in terms of personnel, finance, infrastructure and assets.
  • Responsible for the strategic planning and building of strategic relationships to market the South African Seed Potato Certification Scheme (Scheme) and ensure that it is administered as required by the Minister responsible for Agriculture.
  • Responsible for promoting the use of certified seed potatoes.

Educational Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification with a Scientific and/or Agricultural basis, such as Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Agriculture Management, etc.

Job-Related Experience

  • Plant Pathology Knowledge
  • Human Resource Management
  • Financial Management 
  • Technical Writing Skills in English and Afrikaans
  • Excellent Presentation Skills

Cultural & Organisational Requirements

  • Extensive travelling nationally and internationally.
  • Function effectively and efficiently in a high-pressure environment.
