Mpumalanga lies in the east of South Africa, north of KwaZulu-Natal and bordering Swaziland and Mozambique.  In the north-east, the land rises towards mountain peaks and then terminates in an escarpment.  In places this escarpment plunges down to the low-lying area known as the Lowveld region.

This region also houses the the original Foundation Seed Potato Farm.  Seed potatoes are planted from July to October in the region and harvesting starts in December and ends in June.
