Limpopo was originally named Northern Transvaal.  The new name was chosen because the Limpopo River is a prominent feature in the province.

The Limpopo area is not a big seed potato production region.  The growing season for seed potatoes is during winter time because of the high summer temperatures.

Fields registered for seed potato production is planted in March up to April and harvested during September and October.
